LAHARPE — LaHarpe City Council members approved hiring former Police Chief Joe Stotler as a part-time officer during their Oct. 14 meeting.

Stotler, who served as LaHarpe’s police chief for about seven years before stepping down in 2024 to become Moran’s city superintendent, will work up to 20 hours a week at $25 an hour. He will retain his position in Moran.

The council voted 4-1 to approve Stotler’s hiring, with Councilwoman Cynthia Carr opposed. Carr questioned how the city would cover his salary, noting that a police position had not been included in next year’s budget.

Council members agreed Stotler would not have a fixed weekly schedule and that his duties in Moran would take priority.
