31 local bridge projects will share in over 40.5 million dollars in state and federal funding announced this week by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
About half of the funds will come through the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program, which will replace 15 bridges and remove four others. The remainder comes from the Federal Off-System Bridge Program which targets bridges not on the federal aid system.
One bridge project under the state program is in Allen County, 3.8 miles west and 2.2 miles south of Iola, which is getting $750,000, to which $193,343 in local funds were awarded.
Two area projects are being funded through the federal program, one in Anderson county over a tributary over Maryland Road 1.2 miles north of Welda, awarded $1.3 million, and a $1.8 million project to replace a bridge over Pumpkin Creek on U-14.1 Road three miles east and about a mile north of Altoona.
