MOUNDRIDGE – Tione Wilson rushed for 238 yards on 24 carries and three second-half touchdowns, and Moundridge dominated the second half Friday in beating Trinity Catholic 35-12 in Class 1A District 5 play.
The game was tight for nearly three quarters. Trinity Catholic had one of its best halves of the season in the first half, even though the Celtics lost senior quarterback Beau Towell to injury on the first drive of the game. Adahir Guerrero, who rushed for 109 yards, broke free for a 46-yard touchdown with 4 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first quarter.
The 6-0 lead remained until late in the second quarter, when Wilson tied the game on a 41-yard touchdown run.
Moundridge took a 12-6 lead with 3:20 left in the third quarter when Josh Koehn caught a short pass from Alex Rose, and then broke free for a 59-yard touchdown.
But the Celtics immediately responded, as Adam Guajardo returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to the Moundridge 6-yard line. Two plays later, Xavier Bell scored from 2-yard out, his first varsity touchdown.
Wilson, however, scored 21 seconds later on a 64-yard run. He later added touchdown runs of 7 and 16 yards.
Trinity falls to 1-4 and 0-2 in district play, while Moundridge improves to 3-2 and 1-0.
