Kim Sorensen and her family run a sixth-generation farm outside of Abbyville, Kan.
Kim and her husband Jim moved out to Abbyville in 1985.
“We farmed and just kept growing like everybody wants to do,” Kim said.
Sadly, the family lost Jim to brain cancer in 2018.
Now, Kim’s daughter Kristin (Krissi) and son-in-law Mick Goetz who live across the road help her farm. Their children — Lucas, Lexi, Olivia and Lani will be the sixth generation on the farm.
Kim is a fourth-generation farmer. The original farm paperwork is under the name “Birket” and is still used on a lot of documents as “Birket-Sorensen Farms”.
Wheat is predominately what the Sorensen’s farm, but they also have milo and this year are also doing some beans.
“It’s been kind of a rough year with the weather, but it’s what you deal with all the time,” Kim said.
