Deryn Maxwell rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns, and the reigning Class 1A state champion Sterling rolled to a 55-0 win over Trinity Catholic on Friday at Father Prichard Field.

The Celtics, whose only losses in their last 12 games have been to Sterling, struggled offensively, mustering just three first downs and 60 yards of offense. Senior quarterback Beau Towell had 61 yards rushing.

Maxwell scored the only touchdown in the first quarter on a 11-yard run. The Black Bears then ran rampant, scoring six touchdowns in the next two quarters. Nolan Wellman had a pair of touchdown runs from 9 and 19 yards, Maxwell had a 9-yard touchdown, and Zac Wohler threw a pair of touchdown passes to Jacob Lewis, from 30 and 59 yards.

Maxwell wrapped up the scoring midway through the fourth quarter on an 82-yard touchdown.

Trinity Catholic fell to 1-1 and will travel to Marion next week, while Sterling welcomes Inman in a top Class 1A showdown.
