Smoky Valley Baseball Wins Regional Quarterfinal 14-7, Advance to Semifinals in Colby

Smoky Valley pounded out 16 hits to get the 14-7 win over the Scott City Beavers.  The Vikings opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 2nd inning and added 2 more in the 3rd to grab the early 4-0 lead.  Scott City scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd on just 1 hit.  But Smoky Valley answered with 2 more runs in the top of the 4th to lead 6-3.  With the score 7-3 in the top of the 6th, Ty Heitschmidt knocked a 2-run homerun over the center field fence to give the Vikings the momentum they needed to get the win.  Heitschmidt was the winning pitcher going 5 1/3 innings while surrendering just 3 runs on 2 hits.  He struck out 6 batters and walked 2 in throwing 107 pitches.  Kaleb Burgardt came in as relief in the bottom of the 6th inning.  He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and struck out 3.  Easton Eisenhour took the loss for Scott City giving up 10 runs on 12 hits while striking out 2 batters in his 5 innings of work.

Ty Heitschmidt led the Vikings in hitting going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI’s and also scoring 4 runs as he had 2 doubles along with the home run.  Teron Miller had 3 hits in 4 at bats including an RBI double.  Marik Anderson also collected 3 hits in 3 at bats.  Charles Bowman collected 2 hits in 3 at bats and had 2 RBI’s.  Kylan Linquist had 2 RBI’s for Smoky Valley.  Spencer Cramer was the leading hitter for Scott City as he went 2 for 4 driving in 2 runs and scoring 1 run.

Smoky Valley improved their season record to 11-12 and will advance to the semifinal game of Regional #4 in Class 3A baseball as they will travel to Colby to face the Eagles at 2:00 on Tuesday, May 19.  The finals of the regionals will also be played Tuesday at approximately 6:00.  Scott City finishes their season with a record of 13-10.
