The Pretty Prairie girls basketball team, the No. 2 seed in the Kansas Class 1A Division I state tournament, advanced to the semifinal round on Friday.
No. 2 seed Pretty Prairie defeated Hodgeman County 39-35 in a 1A DI girls quarterfinal game Wednesday afternoon at the Garvey Center on the campus of Friends University.
In the Pretty Prairie-Hodgeman County game, Pretty Prairie trailed 6-5 at the end of the first quarter, led 15-13 at halftime and 26-22 after three quarters. Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Lauren Detter and Ava Goering each scored 10 points for the Bulldogs and Brennan Schrag added 7. Kayleigh Vogl added 6 points, 13 rebounds and blocked 8 shots.
Kylee Reece led the Longhorns with 12 points. Taylor Bamberger and Aidan Lonnberg each scored 7. Ashlynn Beil scored 5 points and had 11 steals. Mallorie Ruff had 5 steals. Reece had 7 rebounds.
The Pretty Prairie Bulldogs (23-2) will play Wabaunsee (23-3) in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal game Friday at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
The semifinal winners will play for the state championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
Hodgeman County finished the season with a 20-7 record.
