The Moundridge Wildcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead en route to a 49-26 victory over the Ellinwood Eagles Friday night at Moundridge.
Moundridge led at halftime 28-12. Ellinwood scored 14 points in the third quarter to cut the Moundridge lead to 28-26. Moundridge outscored Ellinwood 21-0 in the fourth quarter.
“We were able to start strong off the jump which allowed us to withstand a second half rally,” said Moundridge coach Tyler O’Connor. All three phases of the game had moments where they were able to step up and make the difference in a game.”
Moundridge’s Tione Wilson rushed for 184 yards on 30 carries and scored four touchdowns for the Wildcats. Alex Rose completed 8-of-12 passes for 125 yards and three TDs.
Jaxson Shahan, Logan Greenwalt and Josh Koehn each caught a TD pass from Rose, Cyrus Blough made all seven of his extra point kick attempts.
Moundridge piled up 332 yards in total offense (125 passing and 207 rushing).
Cooper Schmidt led the Moundridge defense in tackles with 10, Atley Lichti had 9, Logan DenHartog 9. Garet Wedel 8, James Storer 7, Greenwalt 6 and Koehn 6.
Moundridge improved to 2-1 and Ellinwood is 0-2-1. Ellinwood plays at Lyons next Friday snf Moundridge plays at Conway Springs.
