The Hutchinson Monarchs scored 14 runs in the second inning Wednesday, sending 20 batters to the plate, and the Monarchs routed the Wichita Black Sox 16-1 at Hobart-Detter Field.
The game was called off with the Monarchs batting in the bottom of the sixth inning due to incoming storms.
With the game tied 1-1 in the second inning, the Monarchs went to work with one of the best innings in team history. The first 13 Monarchs reached base safely and 11 runs scored before an out was recorded. Caylin Grimes had the first big hit of the inning, socking a two-run triple. Michael Barham then added a two-run double.
Jackson Schanuel added a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Kevyn Velazco was credited with the win after starting and pitching two innings. Carter Harrington, Daegen Vinduska, Vinny Jarrell and Kale Day all threw one hitless inning in relief. The Monarchs improved to 7-2 and return to Hobart-Detter Field at 7 p.m. Saturday to take on the Junction City Brigade.
