After racing to an early four-run lead, the Hutchinson Monarchs could not sustain that early momentum on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field, as the Haysville Aviators rallied for an 11-6 win.
Haysville scored five runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings after falling behind 4-0 through three innings.
The Monarchs started strong. Consecutive singles from Nash Wray, Marcus Gradney and Wes Baker gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Michael Barham’s two-out single made it 3-0.
Carter Hepner’s single the next inning drove in Brice Wallar for a 4-0 lead.
But Haysville responded with a five-run fifth inning. The Aviators had nobody on with two outs before the next seven reached base safely.
The Monarchs outhit Haysville 10-9. They fall to 8-5 and will travel Friday to Great Bend.
