AUGUSTA, Kan. – After facing some tough competition in their early season tournament on Saturday, the McPherson Bullpup volleyball team was back on the court against two AVCTL Division III foes on Tuesday in Augusta. After a bit of a slow start, the Bullpups got rolling in wins over Buhler and Augusta.
In the opening match, Buhler took the first set over McPherson 25-19 and had a chance to win the second set. However, the Crusaders missed their chance and timely serves from Karlie Cooper helped seal set two 25-23 in favor of the Bullpups. McPherson took a more comfortable third set 25-18.
The momentum carried over to the Augusta match. The Bullpups controlled from start to finish, winning both sets 25-11. Senior Lily Vance had an ace and the Bullpups were able to get all their varsity players in during the win over the Orioles.
For the day, Carmin Pavlovich led the Bullpups with 15 kills and Harper Rierson added 14. Setter Rylie Whitfield tallied another 36 assists in the two matches combined, already pushing her over 100 for the season. Pavlovich had a team-high 12 digs, Everlee Buchman registered three blocks and Rierson had the most aces on the night with three.
McPherson is now 4-3 on the season and will be back on the court on Tuesday, September 8 for a triangular at Winfield.
