WAMEGO, Kan. – The McPherson High School cross country team took on a tough course in Wamego this past Friday. The Bullpup boys came away with sixth place as a team and many of their runners made great strides in their second race of the varsity season.
Tripp Pelzel took 14th place at 17:27.17 as the top individual finisher for the sixth place Bullpup team. Xavier Hartinger was 30th at 18:22. All seven of McPherson’s runners finished in the top half of a field that featured 154 athletes overall. Andale won the meet with 62 points, ahead of Winfield with 84.
The girls varsity race had over 120 runners. Baldwin took the team title by eight points with 67 over Buhler with 75. Adeline Kramer was the top finisher for the Bullpups in 23rd with a time of 21:52.74.
“Many of our athletes improved their times from last week on a very challenging and hilly course at Wamego,” said coach Nikolous Rempe. “This meet is a good chance to see how we rank against other 4A competition early in the season wand will provide us with valuable experience later in the season.”
