MAIZE, Kan. – After falling in their first two games of the Maize South Tournament, the McPherson boys soccer team finished on a high note with a 5-0 shutout of Classical School out of Wichita to finish in 7th Place.
The Bullpups had a 3-0 lead at halftime as Jackson Martin scored the first two goals. Yahir Valadez scored the third goal of the first half and added two more second half goals for a hat trick on the day. McPherson had 14 shots on goal overall. Preserving a shutout, Hunter Schroeder had three saves on the day for the Bullpups as well. McPherson coach Chris Adrian also noted that Parker Riemann stood out on Saturday, being first to almost every ball and played some excellent passes helping move the offense forward.
“This tournament always gives us the opportunity to see some of the best teams in 5A and 6A, and those experiences are incredibly valuable,” said Adrian. “Having to compete against teams with different styles, more size, speed and athleticism forces us to grow.”
McPherson moved back to an even .500 at 2-2 with the win over the Saints on Saturday. They will return to the field with a road game at El Dorado on Tuesday night at 6:30.
