MAIZE, Kan. – The McPherson boys soccer team opened play in the Maize South Tournament on Tuesday with a 7-1 loss to a solid team from Wichita Southeast.
The Bullpup offense was held in check by a physical Buffalo team as they were able to get just two shots on goal for the night. Jackson Martin scored the lone goal in the second half. Despite a tough night for the defense, goalkeeper Hunter Schroeder was still able to tally 11 saves for the match.
“This was a tough game and a really difficult matchup for us physically,” said McPherson coach Chris Adrian. Adding, “The result wasn’t what we wanted, but I was proud of the way the boys continued to compete. Games like this will make us better.”
McPherson is now 1-1 on the season and will continue in the Maize South Tournament with the consolation semis on Thursday. They will face Andover who fell to Wichita East 3-0 in the first round on Tuesday.
