Hutchinson’s Alex Haas Shoots 83 in First Round at 5A State Golf, Misses Cut

In the first round of the Kansas Class 5A boys state golf tournament at Wichita’s Tallgrass Golf Course on Tuesday, Hutchinson High School’s Alex Haas fired a 12-over-par 83 and was tied for 62nd place.

Haas, the lone Sathawk golfer competing at the state meet, did not make the cut for the second round.

Lenexa-St. James Academy won the team state championship with a 606 score (302-304). St. James edged out Kapaun-Mount Carmel by four strokes for the state title.

Kapaun posted a 310 score (300-310), followed by Bishop Carroll 612 (303-309), Goddard Eisenhower 625 (317-308), Maize South 632 (313-319) and Hays High 646 (316-330).

Goddard’s Cohen Museousky captured the Class 5A state title with a 143 score (71-72). Goddard-Eisenhower’s Luke Springer placed second with a145 score (71-74).

Blue Valley Southwest’s Beau Sheldon also shot 145 (76-69), but Springer defeated Sheldon in a playoff for second place.

The top 20 golfers plus ties received medals.
