Hutchinson Central Christian High School junior Cael Kooiman was named Second Team Class 1A All-State by the Kansas Golf Coaches Association on Thursday.
Kooiman placed second with a 145 score (73-72) at the Kansas Class 2A boys state tournament May 26-27 at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course.
First place went to South Gray’s Gavin Wahl, who leads the Class 1A All-State Team. Wahl won the state title with a 141 score (68-73) and led his team to a second-place finish with a 637 score. Hill City won the1A state title with a 628 score.
Hesston, which finished second at the Kansas Class 3A state tournament May 26-27 at Topeka’s Lake Shawnee Golf Course with a 611 score, placed four players on the Class 3A All-State Team.
Making the First Team were junior Carter Frey and freshman Evan Koehn. Junior Austin Penner made the Second Team. Sophomore Isaac Rusche was an honorable mention pick.
Southeast of Saline senior Adam Thiel and Cheney senior Kooper Williams also were honorable hention picks.
