Hutchinson Central Christian High School’s Cael Kooiman placed second at the Kansas Class 1A boys state golf tournament.
The 36-hole 1A state tournament was played Tuesday and Wednesday at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Kooiman posted a 5-over-par 145 score (73-72) to place four strokes behind state champion Gavin Wahl of South Gray, who fired a 1-over-par 141 (68-73).
Hutchinson Central Christian’s Tyler Reed tied for 22nd place with a 167 score (83-84).
Lost Springs-Centre’s Easton Glessner (72-75) and Hill City’’s Kenley Gugleman (75-72) tied for third place at 147.
Hill City captured the state championship with a 633 score, followed by South Gray 640, Hodgeman County 661, Kiowa County 672, Onaga 700 and Centralia 713.
Hill City’s AJ Deges placed seventh, 156 (76-80); Chase Bell, tied for 17th, 163 (78-85); Mitchell Presley, tied for 22nd, 167 (81-86); Case Hayes, tied for 26th. 171 (85-88); and Tate Balthazor, tied for 26th, 171 (90-81).
The top 20 golfers plus ties received medals.
