Flag football will be on the agenda for the Kansas State High School Activities Association Executive Board agenda when the board meets  Wednesday and Thursday at the KSHSAA office in Topeka, 601 SW Commerce Place.

The June meeting is used to finalize 2026-27 activity manuals, review proposals from spring advisory groups and approve staff calendar dates for the upcoming school year.

Flag football leads the KSHSAA Executive Board agenda for the second day.

The staff will facilitate a discussion regarding flag participation and postseason format. It is recommended the flag football postseason format be approved for the first championships to be conducted in fall 2026.

In addition to flag football, the Sunflower League has offered a proposal to eliminate the 5-second closely-guarded violation for high school boys and girls basketball.

“At the board’s request, staff collected data from school, coaches and officials used to determine adopting or not adopting the proposal of the Sunflower League to eliminate the 5-second closely-guarded count in the front court,” said the KSHSAA in its agenda.

Also, Kansas Classes 2A through 5A will be required to have the 35-second shot clock in order to host postseason games for the upcoming school year. Class 1A schools will not be required to have postseason shot clocks.
