The Elyria Christian Eagles fell to Chetopa 38-32 in overtime in a Six-Man football game Friday night at Chetopa.
“We came into Week 2 battling some injuries,” said Chetopa football coach Trevor Little. “Two guys were out, so we only had seven guys available. During the game we battled some cramping and injuries, and had to play half the third quarter with five players. We were able to keep it close throughout that stretch and ultimately comeback and tie the game in the fourth and finish it off in overtime.
“I’m proud of our guys, they battled all game. It was a physical game with a lot of momentum shifts, and we were able to stay poised and execute when we needed to. We had guys that had to step up and play extended snaps. Codey Lawrence and Braydon Heady stepped up and made some key plays in big moments. I could go through our whole team, and at some point in the game we called on them and they were able to make a play. It was a great team win and gives us some momentum to take into Week 3.”
Elyria Christian (0-2) hosts Peabody-Burns next Friday in McPherson. The Eagles lost at Peabody-Burns 54-7 in Week 1.
The Chetopa Hornets (2-0) will play at Southern Coffey County next Friday in LeRoy. The Southern Coffey County Titans hosted Centre-Lost Springs on Friday.
