NEWTON – Led by individual champion Jack Northgraves, the Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team rolled to its seventh-straight Jayhawk Conference team championship on Monday at Sand Creek Station.
Leading by 21 strokes after two rounds, the No. 6-ranked Blue Dragons shot a final-round 297 on Monday to win the 2026 KJCCC team championship. The seven-straight conference championships by the Blue Dragon men’s golf team tie the Blue Dragon men’s basketball teams from 1982 to 1988 for the most consecutive years a Hutchinson athletic team has won a conference championship. This was the Blue Dragons’ 14th all-time conference championship, all won with head coach Chris Young as head coach.
Northgraves became Hutchinson’s 13th all-time KJCCC individual conference champions and the first since Alex Lindstrom in 2023. Northgraves won by three strokes over teammate Joe Austin and Garden City’s Ilan Dufrenoy after shooting a 54-hole total of 1-under 215. Northgraves carded a final-round 71 on Monday.
The Blue Dragons were the only team to shoot three team rounds under 300 in windy conditions over the two days of the tournament. The Dragons shot rounds of 282, 296 and 297 to finish with a 54-hole total of 875. Runner-up Garden City shot 300 in the final round to finish 24 strokes behind the Dragons at 899. Dodge City had a 301 on Monday and finished third at 909.
Hutchinson counted scores in the final round from Northgraves, Hugo Duquaine (72), Grant Hatzenbuehler (74) and Corey Scullion (80).
Northgraves won his second career collegiate championship – he won the Bent Tree Intercollegiate in 2024. After back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 on Monday, Northgraves started the final round slow with bogeys on holes 2 and 3, but posted birdies on Nos. 4, 9 and 16 to post one of only two rounds under par on Monday with a 71.
In addition to Northgraves, seven Blue Dragon players earned all-KJCCC honors. Northgraves, Austin, Duquaine and Scullion were all first-team all-conference members.
Austin, one of five Blue Dragon individual players, shot a 74 on Monday and tied for second at 2-over 218. He is the fourth Blue Dragon to finish as a league runner-up, the first since Charlie Box in 2024.
Duquaine and Scullion tied for fourth at 4-over 220. Duquaine shot an even-par 72 and Scullion had an 80 in the final round.
Hatzenbuehler and individual player Matt Vearcombe were second-team selections. Hatzenbuehler tied for sixth at 6-over 222. He shot a third-straight round of 74 on Monday. Vearcombe carded an even-par 72 to finish at 222.
Freshman Hudson Sauder was named to the honorable mention team with a 14th-place finish. Sauder shot a 79 on Monday and finished at 231.
Cal Schultz finished 19th at 234 after a final-round 79. Ronnie Gibb tied for 20th at 236 after an 81 on Monday. Lincoln Barnes finished 29th at 242 after an 86 in the final round.
The Blue Dragons will next compete at the Region 6 men’s golf championship next Monday and Tuesday at Colbert Hills in Manhattan.
