Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The No. 22-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team will meet the Allen Red Devils in an opening-round series of the Plains District (Region 6) Tournament, which begins on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field.
Game 1 of the best-of-3 series between the Blue Dragons and Red Devils will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. Game 2 will be at 1 p.m. on Friday and Game 3, if necessary, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. All games in the series will be at Hobart-Detter Field.
There will be no admission for the series.
The Hutchinson-Allen series winner will advance to play the Cowley-Dodge City series winner at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Plains District Tournament on May 13 at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
The Blue Dragons are 43-13 and finished second in the Jayhawk West with a 27-5 record. Hutchinson will be the fourth overall seed in the tournament. Thirteenth seed Allen is 18-37 overall and placed seventh in the Jayhawk East with a 9-23 record.
Hutchinson and Allen met once in the 2026 regular season in a midweek contest at Hobart-Detter Field. The Blue Dragons won 24-4 in seven innings. Jackson Schanuel hit two home runs and drove in four runs while Jordan Kuhnau homered and had five RBIs in the contest.
This will be the second-straight season the Blue Dragons and Red Devils will meet in an opening-round series. The Blue Dragons swept the series in 2025 by the scores of 9-3 and 7-3.
Since Region 6 went to the current playoff format – either eight best-of-3 series followed by an eight-team double-elimination tournament or four four-team pods and then a four-team regional final – before the 2004 season, the Blue Dragons are 9-0 all-time against Allen in the Region 6 Tournament. That includes first-round series wins in 2014 and 2025 and wins over the Red Devils in 2005 and 2010.
