BEATRICE, Nebraska – The No. 20-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team gave up four home runs as the Blue Dragons lost an 11-2 midweek game on Tuesday against the Southeast Bobcats at Christensen Field.
Southeast’s Jack Hogan and Crew Moeller hit two home runs each and drove in a combined eight runs to lead the Bobcats in Hutchinson’s single midweek game.
The Blue Dragons (34-10) will return to conference play on Thursday with a pair of games at Seward County at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Brent Gould Field in Liberal. The Blue Dragons and Saints play at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Blue Dragons had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 against the Bobcats. The Dragons scored first when Aidan Marien scored on a throwing error after Jackson Schanuel beat out an infield single in the third inning.
Then tied 1-1 after three innings, the Dragons took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Austin Crawford‘s RBI double scored Tyson Vassart, who walked and stole second.
From the fifth through ninth innings, the Blue Dragons had eight baserunners, but hit into two double plays to quash potential rallies. The Blue Dragons stranded nine runners on base.
Schanuel had the only multi-hit game for the Blue Dragons, going 2 for 3 with a single and double. The Dragons were out-hit 11-9.
Marien and Crawford both had doubles against the Bobcats.
Jeffrey Neill (2-1) started and went four innings in taking the loss. He allowed four hits, three runs and one walk with two strikeouts.
Jordan Clarke went 2 2-3 innings in relief and Brooks Jones and Reese Usselman worked 2-3 innings each.
This was the fourth time this season the Blue Dragons allowed for our more home runs.
