Cooper Harris threw seven shutout innings Sunday, and the Hutchinson Monarchs rolled to a 10-0 win over the Newton Rebels at Hobart-Detter Field.

Harris gave up just five hits and one walk while striking out 10. Julian Lyons pitched a shutout seventh inning in relief. The game ended after eight innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Michael Barham’s two-run single in the first inning gave Harris all the support he would need.

The next inning, Brady Taylor and Jackson Schanuel drove in runs with hits, making it a 4-0 lead.

The scoreboard didn’t change again until the seventh inning. Schanuel led off the inning with a solo home run, and with two outs, James Dagenhart stole third base and scored on a throwing error. The next inning, the Monarchs scored four runs, including three with the bases loaded and two outs. Dagenhart and Drew Bugner walked, and the game ended when Dalton Sabathe was hit by a pitch.

The Monarchs outhit Newton 10-6. Schanuel had three hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle.

The Monarchs improve to 10-6 and will play at 7 p.m. Monday at Newton.
