BUHLER, Kan. – McPherson High School Softball swept Buhler on Tuesday, May 13, to end the regular season, helping them clinch the opportunity to host the Regional Semifinals and Finals at Grant Sports Complex.
McPherson won game one of the doubleheader 11-3. McPherson had 16 hits in the game, led by Ashlyn Schroeder and Carmin Pavlovich hitting 3-5 with an RBI each. Pera Bauer, Ryle Whitfield, and Annalis Gross each had two hits as well. Pavlovich pitched all seven innings, earning the win after striking out six batters.
Game two saw McPherson win in run-rule fashion, 18-6, in five innings. Bauer hit 3-4 for McPherson with 2 RBI. Kadence Zaharis and Carmin Pavlovich each had 3 RBI’s. Ashlyn Schroeder earned the win, throwing the first three innings. Pavlovich threw the final two.
McPherson’s regular season ends at 19-7. The Bullpups also close the season as AVCTL-3 champions, finishing 9-1 in league play. They are at the No. 5 spot in the 4A West Regional standings, but they will move into the top four by the end of the week, clinching a Regional host site in McPherson.
The two teams ahead of McPherson, No. 3 Pratt and No. 4 Andale, face each other on Thursday, May 14. Regardless of the results of the doubleheader, McPherson will have a higher winning percentage than one of the two teams, leap-frogging them to 4th place in the standings. McPherson also swept both teams, giving them the head-to-head tiebreaking advantage if necessary.
Regionals will be held on Tuesday, May 19.
