Bullpup Cross Country Opens at Great Bend

GREAT BEND, Kan. – In a field loaded with 151 runners in the boys race and 126 runners in the girls race, the McPherson cross country teams saw some outstanding competition in their first meet of the season on Thursday.

In the girls varsity race, 5A Bishop Carroll ran away with the team title with 53 points ahead of perennial 3A power Southeast of Saline with 119.  Salina Central’s Kaylie Schultz ran the 5K in 18:18.93 to take the individual title.  McPherson’s top runner was Adeline Kramer in 43rd with a time of 22:49.91.

On the boys side, Bishop Carroll took first place as well with 83 points, ahead of Maize with 97.  Maize junior Isaac Steele took the individual gold with a time of 16:38.38 in the 5K.  Isaiah Ortiz was the top finisher for the Bullpups in 44th with a time of 18:51.18, followed closely by his teammate Xavier Hartinger in 45th at 18:51.47.
