Bullpup Boys Track Wins League, Girls Place 2nd, as Multiple Athletes Win Individual Titles

WINFIELD, Kan. – The McPherson High School Boys Track & Field team won the AVCTL-3 title, the Girls placed 2nd, and the teams won 10 combined events in the AVCTL-3 League Championship meet at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield on Thursday, May 14.

The Boys team won the league title for the first time since 2019, winning three track events and three field events. Senior Caden Wenderott won two individual league titles, winning the Discus and Shot Put. Freshman Kinnick Anderson won the Triple Jump.

The three track events McPherson won were the relay events. Jayren Stutzman, Brody Hoffman, Kinnick Anderson, and Ashton Malm won the 4×100 Relay. The 4×400 Relay team of Dane Becker, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen, and Kayden Friesen also took home the gold, as well as the 4×800 Relay team of K. Friesen, Bowen, Nathan Friesen, and Pelzel.

The Girls finished 2nd, behind Buhler, but they won four events in total. Andi Buschbom won the Long Jump by over one foot, Cayla Weimer came out on top in the Triple Jump, and Karsen Burris won the Javelin, winning by 13 feet. Additionally, the 4×400 Relay team of Ella Wyssman, Buschbom, Kamryn Prescott, and Piper Solofra won the league title.

McPherson will now prepare for Regionals, which will be held on Thursday, May 21 at Buhler High School.
