Buhler Girls Soccer Team Shuts out Classical School of Wichita

The Buhler High School varsity girls soccer team pitched a 3-0 shutout against Classical School of Wichita Monday.

The game was played at the Maize High School Soccer Stadium.

Lakin Yoder scored two goals and assisted on another goal. Taylin Krafels had one goal and one assist. Madi McCool had one assist. Goalkeeper Josie Cummins and the Buhler defense posted a clean sheet (shutout).

“Solid win by the girls tonight,” said Buhler soccer coach Randall Rank. “Proud of the effort and resilience. Several girls had to step up throughout the match with a few stingers and scares along the way, and they answered the challenge.”

Buhler, which improved to 8-4-2, will play at Salina Central on Thursday and will host Wichita Collegiate on Friday to wrap up the regular season.

The Crusaders currently are in fifth place in the Kansas Class 4-1A West Regional standings behind Topeka Hayden (14-0), Towanda-Circle (13-2-1), McPherson (11-4) and Rose Hill (10-4).

Hayden has outscored opponents 71-7, Circle 101-16, McPherson 67-11 and Rose Hill 66-18.

Buhler has played several close matches and have outscored opponents 33-27, including a 3-1 record in one-score games.

Buhler lost to Rose Hill 6-0 on April 21, tied Circle 1-1 on April 27 and lost to McPherson 6-0 on May 5. In addition to tying Circle, Buhler tied Hutchinson on March 26.

The Buhler junior varsity girls soccer team lost to Classical School of Wichita 2-1 on Monday. Kylie Gregg scored the JV team’s goal on an assist by Bella Morones.

“The JV lost a tough one to finish off their season, but what a year for that group finishing with an 11-3-2 record,” Rank said. “Proud of the growth and fight they showed all season long.”
