Blue Dragons Capture 7 Events At Tabor Invitational

HILLSBORO – Joshua Sweetnam broke a school record to lead a group of seven different Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field athletes to win events on Saturday at the Tabor College Invitational at Wiens Stadium.

Sweetnam broke his own school record in the shot put, winning the event with a career-best throw of 58 feet, 11.25 inches (17.96 meters). Sweetnam also had a personal best in the discus with a third-place throw of 159-1 (48.49 meters).

Blue Dragon athletes swept the top three spots in the 110-meter hurdles, getting a national qualifying performance from freshman Ricards Peders. He won the event with a time of 14.90 seconds. Wesley Gill was second with a time of 15.04 seconds. Aidan Anderson was third in 15.13 seconds.

Joshua Muhozi led three Blue Dragons to finish a sweep in the high jump on Saturday. Muhozi cleared 6 feet, 8 inches (2.03 meters) to win the event. Richard Collins and Jahmari Clifton tied for second after clearing 6-4 (1.93 meters).

Miguel Gaisah Essuman won the long jump with a top mark of 23-2.75 (7.08 meters).

Sophomore Giavonni Jones captured his first career event title after winning the Tabor Invitational 100 meters, who won with a time of 10.59 seconds.

Freshman Tristan Sanders won the triple jump with a top jump of 42-3 (14.40 meters). He also placed second in the long jump at 21-10 (6.65 meters).

Sophomore Da’Shawn Lester captured the 400 meters with a time of 48.50 seconds. Keith Rogers was fourth in the event at 53.48 seconds.

Gill led three Blue Dragons to finish in the Top 8 of the javelin. Gill was third with a throw of 167-9 (51.15 meters). Colby Moler was sixth at 152-8 (46.54 meters) and Alex King was eighth at 146-11 (44.80 meters).

Sophomore Karson Engelland placed fifth in the hammer throw with a top throw of 140-6 (42.84 meters).

The Blue Dragons travel to the Emporia State Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Emporia.
