GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Great Bend Bat Cats were able to hold on at home against the Kansas Cannons, winning 7-5 Monday, June 16.
The Cannons struck first thanks to an RBI single by Blake Seefeldt in the third inning, but the Bat Cats poured it on in the 4th thanks to clutch two-out hitting. Joey Marker earned an RBI getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then Peanut Brazzle followed it up with a grand slam to give Great Bend a 5-1 lead.
The Cannons tied the game the next half-inning, scoring on a wild pitch then with a three-run homer by Seefeldt. However, the Cats took the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th after an RBI walk from Andrugh Yee and a sacrifice fly from Caleb Cowan to put Great Bend up 7-5 to the end.
Tyler Clementz got the win on the mound, throwing five innings and striking out seven. Cade Kunz got four shutout innings on the bump to close out the game.
Great Bend is now 8-4 on the season. They’re scheduled for a rematch on the road against the Cannons Tues., June 17, but severe weather may shake up the schedule.
