ANDALE, Kan. — After missing the state tournament in 2025, Andale/Garden Plain is heading back to the Class 4A State Tournament after a 2-0 day in the Class 4A regional at the Andale High School Sports Complex on Tuesday.
It wasn’t easy for Andale/Garden Plain, which had to defeat AVCTL-IV rival Rose Hill 2-1 in its semifinal and hold off Clay Center 3-1 in the regional final.
Andale/Garden Plain 2, Rose Hill 1
Andale/Garden Plain needed to rally after Rose Hill got on the board in the second inning on an RBI double by Charlee Brenzihoffer. Brooklyn Sele tied the game in the third on an RBI and made it 2-1 in the fifth with a solo home run. After allowing one run on three hits in three innings, Clare Krier didn’t allow a single hit, going the distance in the circle and striking out six. Sele went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.
Andale/Garden Plain 3, Clay Center 1
Ryin Gibbins got Andale/Garden Plain off to a good start in the first inning. Gibbins retired the first nine batters and added an RBI double in the second for a 1-0 advantage. Clay Center tied the game at one in the fifth on a fielder’s choice. Entering the bottom of the sixth, Andale/Garden Plain delivered when it needed to. An RBI triple by Abby Durham gave Andale/Garden Plain a 2-1 lead, and then an insurance run on a groundout by Gibbins made it 3-1. Gibbins allowed one run on four hits and five strikeouts in a complete game effort, while also going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Rose Molitor went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Andale/Garden Plain will enter the state tournament with a 19-5 record, winners of eight in a row, and will play in a Class 4A state quarterfinal on Monday. The site and opponent will be determined later this week after all regionals have been played.
