HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One person is in custody after stabbing and arson incidents northwest of Hutchinson Tuesday night.
The Reno County Sheriff’s office said deputies responded at 7:17 PM to the 5300 block of West 43rd on the stabbing report. On arrival heavy smoke was seen coming from the front door. A 65-year-old man was found outside with multiple stab wounds to his chest, though at the time he was able to communicate that a woman stabbed him, set his house on fire, and walked away from the scene. In searching for her, a call came in from 5300 West Nickerson Boulevard where a man said a woman entered his house and tried to set it on fire. At this location Amy Rowland was taken into custody.
The fire on 43rd caused extensive damage to the residence and was put out by Fire Districts 3 and 4. The stabbing victim was taken by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Rowland was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility on requested charges of attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated arson, arson and criminal threat. Rowland is being held on a $516,500 bond pending filing of charges after making her initial court appearance.
