McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson High School has defended its 4A 4-speaker state title once again.
The Bullpup debaters went undefeated Saturday in the state tournament in Tonganoxie, edging Bishop Miege which lost just two matches in the two day tournament. Buhler Placed 3rd in 4A.
In the 3-2-1A state 4-speaker tournament, also held in Tonganoxie, Sterling finished 2nd behind Silver Lake, which like McPherson made an undefeated run through the tournament.
Newton placed 3rd in the 5A 4-speaker tournament in Olathe finishing just behind Sumner Academy of Kansas City, with Blue Valley Southwest taking the state title, losing just one match in the two-day meet.
In the 2-speaker 3-2-1A state meet, the Lyons team of Cherish Galliart and William Miller and the Nickerson teams of Haley McGill and Mayci Terhune and Cody Spurlock and Alec Brown tied for 4th. McPherson also had their two speaker team of Bennett Cromwell and Hendrix Nelson tie for 4th. They were held in conjunction with the four speaker tournaments.
