RANSOM, Kan. — A western Kansas school superintendent was arrested last Friday on 10 counts following an investigation at Western Plains High School. Local authorities confirmed Monday that Jeff Jones was booked by the Ness County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the case.
According to booking records, Jones faces charges that include making false information, official misconduct, interference with law enforcement, misuse of public funds, permitting a false claim, contributing to a child’s misconduct, interfering with the judicial process, aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim, and theft.
Ness County Attorney Jacob Gayer stated that the arrest occurred Friday morning. While the investigation remains active, Gayer emphasized that there is no known danger or ongoing threat to students, staff, or the community.
Following his arrest, Jones was released on bond. The USD 106 Board of Education has placed him on administrative leave. Ness County law enforcement indicated that while details are currently limited to protect the integrity of the ongoing criminal investigation and judicial proceedings, amendments to the formal charges are likely as the case proceeds in the 24th Judicial District.
The Ness County Attorney’s Office reminds the public that all persons accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Additional information may be released as appropriate and permitted by law.
