HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [August 20, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson has closed 30th Avenue between Apple Lane and K-61 Highway, effective immediately, due to the failure of a storm pipe beneath the roadway.
The closure was implemented after the damaged pipe created a risk of roadway collapse, making it unsafe for travel. Closing the roadway is necessary to protect the safety of motorists while repairs are completed.
City crews will begin repair work on Monday and are working toward completing the project before the start of the Kansas State Fair.
Motorists traveling westbound should follow the signed detour route using Apple Lane to 17th Avenue and back to K-61 Highway. An official detour map will be released as soon as it is available.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as crews complete these emergency repairs to restore the roadway as quickly and safely as possible.
