WACCC Crawl for Cancer 2023

By Brenna Eller

McPHERSON, Kan. — Women and Children Combating Cancer of McPherson County held a Cancer Crawl fundraiser at five locations on Friday, Oct. 13 from 4 to 8:30.

Hank’s, Easy, Bob’s Golf Club, Tres Amigos, and the American Legion hosted the pub crawl for the night. For $25, you were allowed one free drink that a WACCC volunteer would give out at each location. Everyone met up at the American Legion at the end of the night for their WACCC souvenir cup and for the raffle drawings. Raffle prizes were donated by businesses throughout the community.

Jen Bonham of WACCC said the organization is currently in its 21st year.

“Our annual grants just increased from $500 to $750 because of fundraising events like this,” Bonham said. “Grant applications can be completed through the McPherson Count Community Foundation.”

So far, WACCC has given 143 grants and 155 Combat bags. Each year, the organization has annual events such as Think Pink Night with the McPherson High School Girls Basketball Team in February, the City-Wide Garage Sale in June, the Mammo Ammo in July and Crawl for Cancer in October.

According to Bonham, WACCC partnered with McPherson Center for Health for the first time this year for Mammo Ammo.

“Since 2016, WACCC has provided funding for 684 mammograms,” Bonham said.

They just held their 8th Mammo Ammo event this past July.

“Please let us know if you know of a woman or child combating cancer in McPherson County,” Bonham said. “We can’t help if we don’t know.”
