HUTCHINSON, Kan. (July 17, 2025) — Reno County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is moving forward with phase one of community-based support for households affected by the tornado that impacted the Plevna area in May.
Following a recent vote by VOAD board members (see ‘More About VOAD’ section below), funding will begin to be distributed for eligible home repairs under a tiered approach. Phase One, per VOAD by-laws, will focus on households who attended the MARC (Multi Agency Resource Center) event immediately following the disaster and which sustained varying levels of storm damage.
In addition to funding decisions, a demolition day has been planned in partnership with ONEOK and volunteers for Sat., July 26th, to further assist in clean-up and recovery efforts.
VOAD recognizes the ongoing needs of those impacted and remains committed to supporting recovery efforts with compassion and transparency. The Reno County VOAD will continue to assess unmet needs and explore additional funding phases as resources allow.
Also, the group would like to acknowledge the incredible generosity of the community. From donations of dollars and goods, to countless volunteer hours, and the collective care shown in this difficult time—these gifts have been critical in making these recovery efforts possible.
