McPherson County Commissioners Monday made official the results from last week’s USD 418 bond election.

McPherson County Clerk Hollie Melroy said 56 of the 75 provisional ballots from the election were counted. Out of those that were not counted, most were due to not being registered. One came from a person who didn’t live in USD 418.

Melroy also addressed some comments on social media including a call for a full audit of the election. This is a requirement for state-run elections such as the August primary and November general election but isn’t for local elections. On those elections, the Secretary of State designates specific items and precincts to be audited.

For this election Melroy did a hand count of a few precincts, and those results came out perfect. “There’s such bad publicity about elections machines, and the counter, and people screaming we want to do hand counts,” Melroy told Commissioners. “I just like to show that we do our diligence to make sure our machines are working.“

The County Clerk’s Office will be doing a post-election test of their vote counting machines Tuesday morning at 10:30 at their office on the lower level of the Courthouse.

With those ballots counted, the official results have question one, which included the new academic wing for McPherson High School passing 2,341 to 1,330, and question two which included the conversion of Eisenhower Elementary School to a middle school approved 2,223 to 1,451.
