HUTCHINSON, Kan. – July 7 –  USD 308 is responding to water damage at Hutchinson Middle School 7, 210 E. Ave A, following a plumbing malfunction that occurred around July 4th.

A toilet on the building’s fourth floor malfunctioned, resulting in flooding that caused water damage to all four floors of the building as well as the basement. No injuries occurred as a result of the incident.

Upon learning of the situation, district leadership immediately contacted a professional restoration team, which began work promptly to remove the water and clean up the affected areas of the building.

HMS 7 currently serves as a production kitchen and serving site for the Summer Meals program. The kitchen area was not flooded and has been cleared to resume normal operations during the clean-up, meaning there will be no interruption to summer meal service.

“Our priority is restoring the building safely and efficiently,” said Dr. Dawn Johnson, Superintendent. “We acted quickly to bring in a restoration team, and we are committed to keeping our staff, families, and community informed as the assessment continues.”

The full extent of the damage is not yet known. The restoration team is currently assessing the building, and the district will share additional information, including any potential impact on building operations for the upcoming school year, as it becomes available.

Updates will be posted at www.usd308.com and communicated directly to staff and families.
