HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Current Hutchinson Community College Assistant Athletic Director Steve Kappenman will join Hutchinson Public Schools as Athletic Director in the 2024-2025 school year. Kappenman joins the Salthawks after 12 successful years with HutchCC, where he is better known as “Kapp”.
While at HutchCC, Kapp has specialized in eligibility, compliance, scheduling, concessions, game operations, and fundraising for the Blue Dragon Athletic Department. Kapp joined HutchCC in 2012. During his time at HutchCC, the Blue Dragons went on to win four NJCAA Championships
A graduate of Hutchinson High School and HutchCC, Kapp went on to the University of Kansas, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a business minor. He holds a Master’s degree in Health, Human Performance, and Recreation from Pittsburg State University.
Kappenman joins his wife, Morgan Kappenman, 3rd grade teacher at Wiley Elementary and his three sons; Lucas, Landry, and Lawson who also attend the district. “I am excited to be a part of making a positive impact in the culture at USD 308. I look forward to building strong relationships with students, coaches, teachers, and parents in this community. Once a Salthawk, Always a Salthawk.”
Jon McLean, outgoing Athletic Director, will join Hutchinson Middle School as teacher and girls’ basketball coach.
