Repair and replace efforts continue around Salina schools after severe storms this summer caused about $8 million in damage across the district. Superintendent Heath Hogan shared a number of details during this week’s school board meeting.

The storms hit several buildings hard. Coronado Elementary is a full roof replacement. Crews must also repair parts of the roofs at Heartland Early Education and South Middle School.

USD 305 also lost or saw heavy damage to 58 vehicles and over 150 sensors for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems were either destroyed or needed repairs.

Insurance has covered about $4 million so far. District leaders and staff are still working with insurance companies and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover the rest of the costs.
