HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Discussions on the future of the race track at the Kansas State Fairground may be in the offing. The State Fair Board’s executive committee met Thursday to discuss the racetrack, a plan for its removal having generated a great deal of discussion and a meeting Tuesday evening of track supporters.

That meeting came after racer and Larned Mayor, William Nusser addressed the Fair Board at their July meeting and The Hutchinson City Council earlier in the day Tuesday.

The State Fair Board issued the following statement Friday.

“The Kansas State Fair Board of Directors appreciates the passion and conviction from race fan’s shown towards the decision that was made back in November 2022 to remove the ½ mile oval at the Kansas State Fairgrounds Grandstand. The board has agreed to convene a meeting after the 2023 Kansas State Fair to discuss this issue further. Date to be determined.”

Nusser told Ad Astra News this afternoon track supporters want to be firm this meeting should be to explore keeping a track on the fairgrounds.

Nusser said another meeting of track supporters is planned before the end of the month.
