McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Fire Chief TJ Wyssmann, who had been placed on administrative leave, apparently won’t be returning to the position.
In the wake of a number of rumors circulating around the community, Mayor Tom Brown confirmed to Ad Astra News in an email Friday morning Wyssmann had been placed on leave. At the end of the email, Brown said, “The process is working”.
The agenda for Tuesday’s McPherson City Commission meeting gave a very big clue as to what was meant by process. Mayor Brown will be requesting permission to start the hiring process for the position of Fire Department Chief.
Wyssmann became McPherson’s Fire Chief in December 2018 after serving as interim chief following the retirement of Jeff Deal. Prior to that he had been a deputy chief and division chief of training and operations.
Mayor Brown said Division Operations Chief Seth Graham with close coordination with Division Chief Matt Kangas are keeping the McPherson Fire Department running smoothly.
