HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The U.S. Nationals Horseshoe Pitching Tournament will bring competitors from across the country to Rice Park in Hutchinson, Kansas, May 29–31, 2026. Hosted by the Rice Park Horseshoe Club, Visit Hutch and sanctioned by the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA), the three-day event is expected to attract upwards of 300 athletes and spectators representing states from California to Virginia and Idaho to Florida, along with many talented Kansans.
The tournament weekend will feature three separate championship events, giving players multiple opportunities to compete at a high level while showcasing the skill and tradition of the sport of horseshoe pitching. The festivities begin Friday, May 29 and continue through Saturday and Sunday, creating a full weekend of competition and camaraderie for athletes and spectators alike.
The tournament is expected to generate significant hotel stays and visitor spending throughout the weekend, benefiting local businesses while introducing visitors to Hutchinson’s hospitality and attractions. Local competitors will also be in the spotlight, including Hutchinson’s own Jim Newboles, who will be among the players representing Kansas in the competition.
“Bringing this tournament to Hutchinson has taken a partnership between the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, Rice Park Ringers and Visit Hutch over the past few years,” said Holly Leiker, Director of National Sales & Sports Events for Visit Hutch. “With competitors traveling from across the United States, we can’t wait to welcome players, families, and fans and show them the energy, excitement, and unforgettable experiences that make Hutchinson truly shine.” She continued, “Jim Newboles has been a tremendous support during this process, and we are grateful to have him as a host partner for this tournament. His experience and knowledge of horseshoe pitching is invaluable.”
The Rice Park Horseshoe Club is eager to host athletes from across the country and showcase one of the Midwest’s respected horseshoe pitching venues. Club members have been preparing the courts and facilities to ensure a memorable tournament experience for both players and spectators. “The NHPA is thrilled to partner with Visit Hutch and the Rice Park club to bring this tournament to Kansas,” Dalton Rakestraw NHPA 2nd VP and Tournament Director said. “Events like this continue to grow the sport of horseshoe pitching while bringing communities together.”
