McPHERSON, Kan. — Two horses died in a Monday morning barn fire southeast of McPherson.

McPherson fire units were called just after 7:30 a.m. to the area of 17th and Eisenhower Road, where on arrival a small barn was found with heavy fire involvement and had partially collapsed due to a roof failure.

Tender trucks from Galva and Moundridge also responded, along with McPherson EMS, the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and BPU.

Two horses in the barn perished while two others in a nearby pen were moved out with a bystander and the property owners keeping them cool prior to emergency responders arriving.

The cause and origin of the fire has not been determined but foul play is not suspected.
