Traffic accidents Saturday evening claimed the lives of two central Kansas residents, including a man struck while walking along a county road northeast of McPherson and a Hutchinson woman killed in a crash in far southeast Reno County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said Pedro Amezcua-Gonzalez, 59, of McPherson was struck by a pickup while walking at 17th Avenue and Mohawk Road, a half mile east of the I-135-Mohawk Road interchange around 8 PM Saturday.
Amezcua-Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol said in a release Sunday afternoon a witness reported seeing a white Chevy or GMC pickup driving erratically on 17th before turning west onto Northview Road into McPherson.
Troopers on the scene also found a sticker linking it to a 2004-2012 GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado that likely had damage on the front right side and possibly missing a right turn signal bulb.
The Highway Patrol is especially asking McPherson residents to be on the lookout for such a vehicle on the belief based on the witness report the driver may be local. If you have any information regarding the accident or this vehicle, contact KHP Dispatch in Salina at 785-827-4437 or local law enforcement.
A car-semi crash in far southeast Reno County just before 6 PM Saturday claimed the life of 47-year-old Staci Eikleberry of Hutchinson.
Eikleblerry was pulling away from a stop sign on Worthington Road onto K-96 about three miles west of Mount Hope when her car was hit on the driver’s side by a semi driven by Vernon Bontrager of Hutchinson.
Eikleberry was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bontrager escaped injury.
