Three Arrests, Two Cases, One Unusual in Great Bend

GREAT BEND, Kan. — Great Bend Police have of late had some interesting cases, including one in a place you wouldn’t think of.

Case one began June 6th when they took a report of a theft in progress in the 900 Block of MacArthur Road where several large spools of wire cable used in oil fields were stolen by Deception.

A suspect was identified and that afternoon a traffic stop was made on a vehicle he was in on Adams, during which K9 officer Niko picked up on the odor of drugs, later found to be methamphetamine, along with open containers of alcohol. From that Robert Streiner was arrested on theft and drug charges.

The driver of that car, Cindy Blake, was also arrested on the same charges, and while being booked into the Barton County Jail a concealed bag of meth was found on her, which added a trafficking charge. Over the weekend, part of what was stolen was found at a business in Stockton and more at another in Kearney, Nebraska.

Then there’s what happened earlier this week. Police and Central Kansas Community Corrections responded to a narcotics complaint at Azria Health Woodhaven off K-96. Staff there told officers about concerns from residents about a fellow tenant allegedly using and possibly distributing illegal substances.

After detaining 71 year old Larry Carpenter, a search of his residence turned up suspected meth and drug paraphernalia, and the drugs not having a tax stamp. That led to Carpenter being relocated to the Barton County Jail.

Along with expressing their appreciation to the Woodhaven staff for their attentiveness, they also encourage anyone who had information these or other cases to contact them either direct at 620-793-4120, or anonymously through Barton County Crimestoppers at 620-792-1300 or at p3tips.com.
