McPHERSON, Kan. — The ReUse It Center announced its Volunteer of the Month, which was awarded to Alvin Hett of Hillsboro. The Center was able to donate $4,500 to local organizations this month. The two organizations that received donations were Celebrate Recovery and Steps to End Poverty in McPherson (STEPMC).
The ReUse It Center Volunteer of the Month: Alvin Hett

Alvin Hett, the ReUse It Center’s “paint guy”, has been a volunteer on Wednesday workdays for the last nine years and commutes to McPherson from Hillsboro. He also brings donations from Hillsboro.
Hett shared with the ReUse It Center that his wife wanted him to be involved with volunteering after he retired, which is why he started volunteering for the Center. He also credited Bill Toews for helping him get more involved because Toews had been volunteering when the Center first started.
When asked what has made him stay at the ReUse It Center, Hett said, “The best reason is to help prepare items for sale that are sold and the proceeds then get donated to a number of different charities. The other reason is to volunteer with great people that are very talented.”
