McPHERSON, Kan. — The ReUse It Center has announced that a total of $6,250 was donated in the month of September thanks to its shoppers and volunteers.
McPherson Housing Coalition, Inc.
McPherson Housing Coalition, Inc. (MHC) is an alliance of community members whose mission is to develop, promote, and implement programs that provide affordable, decent, and quality housing to eligible families. We strengthen communities by providing housing opportunities and supportive services to improve the quality of life and economic stability for seniors, working families, and individuals. Programs that they run are Brush Up Mac, Oak Harbor Cottages, and Sutherland Estates.
Marquette Ministerial Alliance
The Marquette Ministerial Alliance consists of the churches of the Marquette community. The Alliance helps people who are in need of food, rent, or medical assistance. They also help sponsor the community Thanksgiving meal, at Christmas time, its member churches provide Christmas gifts for needy families through an Angel Tree program and bring cheer baskets and carol to those who are at the Rivers View Nursing Home, the homebound and/or elderly. During the summer months when school is not in session, the Alliance coordinates a free summer lunch program at noon for the children of the Marquette community.
Mennonite Central Committee
MCC is a global, nonprofit organization that strives to share God’s love and compassion for all through disaster relief and support for economic development in underdeveloped countries. In all our programs, we are committed to relationships with our local partners and churches.
McPherson County Feeds the Starving
The MCFS project is a festive, hands-on community event to roll up your sleeves and feed the hungry. The MCFS provides a food packaging event for the local community to focus on providing life-sustaining meals that will be delivered to the local food banks and the most impoverished areas of the world. We partner with The Outreach Program (Numana), located in El Dorado, KS, a nonprofit hunger relief organization with the mission to empower people to save the starving in our local and international communities. MCFS’s last packing event, they packaged around 50,000 meals, with 15,000 going to the local food bank and the remaining going to Haiti.
McPherson County Utility Aid Fund
The McPherson County Utility Aid Fund provides funding to those in our community in need of assistance paying their utility bill. The fund is managed by the McPherson County Community Foundation and is set up as an endowment to ensure that there is funding in the future. The ReUse It Center’s donations go toward their spendable balance to ensure that there is also funding available immediately. Churches United in Ministry is responsible for screening and distributing the funds to those who are in need.
McPherson County Shop with the Sheriff
The Clayworks has teamed up with the McPherson Co. Sheriff’s Department to provide gifts to children in McPherson Co. They work with the surrounding school districts to determine elementary-aged children who are in need. They then create lists, shop for the requested gifts, and host a reception for the selected children/families to attend. They operate solely on donations received throughout the year from various sources, including donors and fundraising.
Volunteer of the Month: Hugo Boshmann
Hugo has been volunteering for the ReUse It Center for the past 12 years. Every Tuesday he comes in and processes doors, measuring, pricing and stocking them. Another fun fact, Hugo has a twin brother and they both painted our break room and our board room when we moved to our current location!! When asked why he volunteers for the ReUse It Center, he had this to say: “I like volunteering because of the purpose of the ReUse It Center. I’ve volunteered for the past 12 years and really enjoy the coffee breaks and fellowship.”
