On Wednesday, June 10, a man named Gaétan Bussières heard The Golden Belt’s Real Country station 98.9 KGBK FM from Maniwaki, Quebec in Canada, a distance of about 1,305 miles away.
Bussières was driving home late afternoon Wednesday when he managed to tune in to KGBK from his FM station.
“Technically, it’s impossible to hear a traditional FM station from that far away,” Bussières explained. “But apparently, certain weather conditions can sometimes make it possible.”
Bussières has been with CHGA Radio in Maniwaki, Quebec for 40 years.
“I was a radio host for 36 years. And for the last few years I’ve been a local sales representative for the station,” Bussières said.
According to Bussières, Radio CHGA has been broadcasting since 1980 on the frequency 97.3 FM. It just has one antenna, broadcasting at a power of 17,900 watts.
The Golden Belt’s Real Country Station 98.9 KGBK is located in Larned, KS, and broadcasts at 16,500 watts. KGBK is the only Real Country Station between Hays and Wichita and plays Country’s Biggest Hits from the ’60’s all the way to today.
