LINDSBORG, Kan. — Greg and Susan Lundstrom have been named the 2025 Svensk Hyllningsfest King and Queen.
With deep roots in both Swedish heritage and the Lindsborg community, Greg and Susan Lundstrom exemplify the spirit of Svensk Hyllningsfest and “The Greatest Square Mile on Earth”. As Bethany College graduates, they chose to build their life in Lindsborg—raising their family, supporting countless organizations, and giving tirelessly to causes close to their hearts.
Greg and Susan proudly carry on their Swedish ancestry—Greg through generations in the Smoky Valley area, and Susan through her paternal grandmother from McPherson. Swedish traditions are woven into their daily lives, from Swedish Christmas music and prayers to family-favorite recipes like spritz cookies and homemade Ostkaka.
Their passion for tradition is on full display during Svensk Hyllningsfest and other local events, where they, along with their children and grandchildren, don authentic Swedish attire. For Greg and Susan, honoring their heritage is more than a gesture—it’s a way of life.
For more than 40 years, the Lundstroms have worked to preserve and celebrate Swedish culture in Lindsborg. Both have served as Co-Chairs of the Hyllningsfest Committee. Continuing a family legacy of leadership and service, Greg’s father was a Co-Chair in the 1960’s and son Eric, was a Co-Chair in 2017. Even after their formal roles ended, they’ve remained active volunteers—whether selling buttons, making announcements, or rolling butterballs for the Smorgasbord. For over a decade they danced with Folkdanslag.
Susan is especially known for her behind-the-scenes contributions. She has helped curate the King and Queen window display for several years, gathering materials and designing it with care and creativity. In 2023, she was honored for her work with the Swedish Costume Bank, where she and a dedicated team ensure each child has a well-made costume for the festival—an effort driven purely by love and dedication.
Outside of their cultural contributions, Greg and Susan have enriched the Lindsborg community in countless ways. Greg, a dedicated supporter of the Lindsborg Golf Course, also served as the Administrator and CEO of the Lindsborg Community Hospital, where his leadership helped shape a reliable, thriving healthcare system. He currently serves on the Lindsborg Community Health Care Foundation Board and serves on the Board of Directors of Lindsborg Meals on Wheels.
Susan has long served her church family at Bethany Lutheran, taking on roles such as financial secretary and coordinator for funeral lunches. Together, they’ve been steadfast supporters of the arts—frequent attendees at local exhibits and performances, especially those involving their son’s theatrical work.
Greg and Susan Lundstrom are shining examples of how one couple’s love for heritage, community, and tradition can inspire and uplift an entire town. Their unwavering commitment makes them exceptionally deserving of the title of 2025 Svensk Hyllningsfest King and Queen!
